St. Alban's history

1890
May 15, 1897, the land on which St. Alban's Church is now located was purchased by the Protestant Episcopal Church, then under the Missionary Jurisdiction of Southern Florida.

In 1898, Rev. Mr. Hodgman of Haines City undertook the task of building a church by not only helping to raise the money, but also to supervise the construction, building the altar, pews and other furnishings. After the church was finished, he conducted services and his daughter played the organ. The building was of timber covered with siding. There was no plaster of sheathing on the inside.

The first service in it was held September 25, 1898. In choosing a name for the church, Miss Louise Hulbert if Norwood Park suggested 'St. Alban's', which was the name of the church she attended at Norwood Park. Services were held twice a month with an average of 25 people attending.
